Design is where every design-build project starts, and it is how we build it right the first time. It begins with a short video call to make sure we are the right fit, then an on-site visit where we shoot grade and elevation and talk through what you want.

From there we put together a preliminary drawing and a 3D view. For planting, we go through a sheet with you on the colors, sizes and shapes you like and whether you lean deciduous or evergreen. We tend toward native and natural-looking plants for our area.

We don’t give project prices over the phone. If you call, we will tell you our design fee up front.

The Second Meeting: At Our Shop

Once the drawings are ready, you come to our shop for the presentation. If there is block involved, you pick it in our design lab, where a Techo-Bloc mix-and-match set lets us lay out colors, shapes and sizes at full size. If there are plants, we walk out to our nursery and you tag the ones going in your yard. You picked them, and they are waiting for your project. Anything we need to order gets brought in.

Changes happen at this meeting, while everyone is in the same room, so the crew builds exactly what you approved.

When Plans Change Mid-Project

We try to make every decision before the crew shows up, but it doesn’t always work that way. When something changes on site, our sales team writes a change order so everyone is on the same page. Our design software lets us quickly redraw the change, so you can see one option next to the other before you decide.

Start in the Fall

Our most successful projects are designed and booked the fall before. If you call in November, you are usually a May project, because spring fills fast and there is usually a six-to-eight-week wait once it does. Designing over the winter means your spot is held when the ground is ready.
